In collaboration with Ontario Nature, Cold Creek has been monitoring the snakes on site. Snake monitoring takes place from mid May to mid July and lasts a total of 8 weeks. We observe the snakes beneath set transact boards within the first 2 hours after sunrise or 2 hours before sunset.
Things we look for include
- Type
- Age
- Sex
In 2024 Cold Creek staff took on the task of conducting snake monitoring. Prior to that Ontario Nature would have a volunteer come out to conduct surveys. In that same year the transect boards were moved prior to the first survey. If you would like to volunteer to assist with surveying please email coldcreek@king.ca.
